We hope that others will also take the time to thank the ones who paved the way in the industry for them. These pieces to the puzzle of a successful show career come in all shapes and sizes. And despite the occasional backdrop picture, they are often silent. This thank you note goes out to the parents, siblings, mentors, and teachers who help at the drop of a hat, without expecting anything in return. These are the ones who pick up a shovel, help feed early in the morning, carry a fresh bale of shavings, and watch exhibitors walk pigs in the dark with headlights of the truck luminating the yard. The people who help young enthusiasts learn about genetics, pig selection, feeding tricks, and plant a passion in their heart for selecting the “one.” While their exhibitor is in the ring you can find them behind the holding pen, in the stands, or at home watching online (because someone has to be taking care of the set at home, right?). No matter where they are, they are certainly anxious and excited, hoping their exhibitor gets the chance they deserve to shine. And if they are lucky enough to walk out with a blue ribbon, nobody in the world is prouder—because they know what it takes to get there. While thank you will never be enough for the many people who support exhibitors in their junior show journey, we are honored to acknowledge the ones behind the scenes and all they do.
