Zach Minster is the owner and vision behind the Minster operation. For Minister, the passion for show pigs and the desire to raise some of his own started at an early age. He remembers getting his first show pig from his uncle at Christmas time as a child and he was immediately hooked. “My uncle gave me a little Cross barrow one year for Christmas, and I really enjoyed it. After that I decided I wanted to raise some, so I bought a few Berk gilts and has continued to just grow,” says Minster. Over the years, Minister has had many role models and influences, but by far the most impactful has been Wyatt Nelson. A mentor of his, Wyatt taught Minister many basic production skills such as AI’ing sows, evaluating stock, how to feed and basic care. “My mentor is Wyatt Nelson. I asked Wyatt if he would be able to teach me how to A..I one of my sows, and he was more than happy to teach me. Now every single one of the foundation females here originated from the Nelson-Rushing firm. I truly cannot thank them enough for everything,” comments Minister. With a larger facility and growing sow base on the horizon as a long term goal, Minister is focusing on raising quality pigs in the short term. He hopes to generate competitive, high quality pigs that can provide more young people with the opportunity to show and get “bit by the bug”, so they can carry on the tradition of animal agriculture. As a new consignor to the online selling space, Zach is looking to gain exposure and build his brand with The Debut consignment auction. He is looking forward to meeting and connecting with other breeders and selling pigs to new homes in new areas he has not reached yet.
